Hi there, I’m Deb, a portrait photographer specializing in High School Seniors.

It’s been a while since I graduated, but I can still remember how big of a deal senior year was, and how important it was to make every second of it count.  I think that’s why I place so much emphasis on the senior year experience in my business.  I know that senior pics are more than just another school picture – they represent an opportunity to express who you are and what you’re into at this important time in your life. Technically, you’re not quite an adult, but you’re no longer a kid… you’ve got big hopes and dreams, and probably a healthy dose of fear to go along with them.

I remember what it’s like to be where you are – the excitement, the uncertainty… For me, being a photographer is about more than just creating pretty pictures. It’s about building a relationship and creating an experience that will make those pictures mean more and more to you as time goes on.

“When I take my personal time to be involved in something, it is going to be something that I am truly passionate about.”

My interest in photography was sparked early on as a child – I was always the one in my friend group dragging around a camera, and even took a photography class in college.  I never considered it to be more than a hobby, though, until an impromptu “photo shoot” with my nieces a few years ago ignited a passion I didn’t know I had.  Even though I couldn’t put my finger on it at the time, there was just something about the one on one connection that I loved.  The rest, as they say, is history, and I’ve been doing portrait photography ever since.

I do have a career outside of photography, but do photography because I absolutely love it and it gives me energy. You know how people always say you should do something that “fills you up”?  Well, photography is that for me!  I have a limited amount of time available each year, so I don’t do ALL types of photography, only the ones I absolutely love.  For me, that is primarily high school seniors, with some business and family portraits sprinkled in.

When I’m not working, I like to travel with my husband, or just spend time enjoying life in the beautiful Brainerd Lakes Area.  In the summer, I love getting out for a walk, riding my bike, or just having a glass of wine on the deck with a friend.  In the winter, it’s a bit of a different story…I’m always cold, so you’ll probably find me all bundled up, looking for a fire to cozy up to! Honestly, I’m not sure when I became such a cold weather wimp, but the older I get, the less I like the Minnesota winters. 😉  So, if you’re up for a destination session to a warm climate in the middle of winter, I’m your girl!
